LA JOLLA

  • Why go: The monthly Vintner Artisan Table dinners on the Terrace at A.R. Valentien, the Lodge restaurant, features Au Bon Climat owner and winemaker Jim Clendenden. Meals include four courses: appetizers, main, cheese, and dessert and coffee, along with California wines.

  • Where/when: , 700 Prospect St., La Jolla, 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: The Pacificaires and Cedar Center Chorus will perform a concert featuring works by Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin, traditional spirituals, Appalachian fiddle and pop standards.

CARLSBAD

  • Where/when: , 2787 State St., Carlsbad, 8 p.m. Thursday.
  • Why go: Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman opens in previews Thursday, then for the regular run Saturday.
  • Price: $25-$30; $40 opening night; pay-what-you-can for previews.
  • Where/when: , 5480 Grand Pacific Dr., Carlsbad, 4 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Why go: The resort marks “Brewsday Tuesday” in the Twenty/20 Grill with music and featured beers, this week by Airdale Brewing Co.

BEST BETS, A LITTLE FARTHER OUT

  • Where/when: Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, 10 a.m. Friday.
  • Why go: The San Diego County Fair kicks off with an opening ceremony and all the attractions you could hope for, from bungee jumping to monster trucks and displays of prize animals. Rocker Pat Benatar plays the opening concert, followed on Saturday by current chart-toppers Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae.
  • Price: $7-$13, with discounts available.
