See a Bona Fide 'Superstar'

See a performance of the acclaimed "Jesus Christ Superstar" before it hits Broadway.

In tune with the season, the has been hosting the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical about the man's who birthday we remember this weekend.

Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera composed by theater guru Webber, with lyrics written by Tim Rice. It's a story of the last week of life for Jesus in music form, with a large focus on the betrayal by Judas, the man who sat at Jesus' righth and at the Last Supper.

Jesus Christ Superstar first hit the Broadway stage back in 1971 and has since been revived on the big stages multiple times as well as been made into films. La Jollans are some of the lucky few who get to see this rocking musical before it returns to the big Broadway theater next year.

The play is a Stratford Shakespeare Festival Production and is being performed at the Weiss Theatre at the La Jolla Playhouse. There are performances each day through New Year's Eve (save Christmas Day and Dec. 26). Tickets are sparse but some seats are still available for later dates, like Dec. 31. Times vary so to see a list of times and to get tickets, which cost $150.

Jesus Christ Superstar is directed by Des McAnuff with Bruce Dow, Chilina Kennedy, Jeremy Kushnier, Mike Nadajewski, Paul Nolan, Josh Young, Marcus Nance, Lee Siegel and Aaron Walpole.
