San Diego Film Festival Announces Screenings at ArcLight Cinemas in La Jolla

Special events will honor director Judd Apatow and Mariel Hemingway, whose documentary makes its West Coast premier.

More than 100 films will screen during the five-day San Diego Film Festival being held at the ArcLight Cinemas in La Jolla, and Reading Theater in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp District.

Film lovers will enjoy a slate of world premiers, including The Republic of Two, Lost on Purpose, Brahmin Bulls and Grave Secrets. Documentaries include the world premier of Of Kites and Bordersthe compelling story of four children who live south of the border in Tijuana, and the West Coast premier of Running From Crazy, Mariel Hemingway's examination of substance abuse, suicide and mental illness in her family.

Hemingway, a mental health advocate and granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, will be honored by the San Diego Film Festival and Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital on Oct. 5 at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. She will be presented with the Humanitarian Award for her role in the new documentary feature film.

Judd Apatow, know for his work on BridesmaidsThis is 40, Knocked UpPineapple Express and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, will be honored by the festival with its Visionary Filmmaker Award on Oct. 3 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. The event is open to the public with a San Diego Film Festival VIP pass.

The 2013 festival takes place Oct. 2-6, and presents movies in the Features, Documentaries, Native America, Music, Sports, Fashion, World Issues and Film Shorts categories. For more information and film schedule, visit www.sdfilmfest.com
