Quint Contemporary Art Gallery Reopens in Expanded Space

After being an integral part of the San Diego art scene for 30 years at a variety of locations, Mark Quint's gallery has moved to a larger space in La Jolla.

Mark Quint tried his luck as an artist. It wasn’t for him.

Now, the La Jolla native is focusing all of his artistic energy toward one project: helping other artists showcase their abilities through his art gallery, Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla.

“I was 27 when I started and I didn’t really know anything about the gallery business so I just jumped in very naïvely,” said Quint, who first opened Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla in 1981. Since then, the busy owner has relocated his gallery to downtown San Diego and Mission Hills and most recently on Drury Lane.

Quint moved his business to a more prominent space in La Jolla about a month ago, he said. The gallery is located on 7547 Girard Ave.

“It’s an exciting time,” he said. “[Moving the gallery] has been in the works for a couple of years. This gallery is much more visible than the other spaces we’ve had, which have been kind of hidden in the back alley.”

Quint said the gallery hosts an exhibition at least once a month. He said what separates his gallery from others is its accessibility and class.
