A total of 48 artists were selected for the 21st Annual Juried Exhibition, which opens with a reception tonight. The show runs through Sept. 1 in the Athenaeum’s Joseph Clayes II and Rotunda galleries.
Each year prominent arts administrators from local galleries or institutions are selected by the Athenaeum, to serve as jurors. This year’s jurors are Ben Strauss-Malcolm, gallery director at in La Jolla, and Jill Dawsey, associate curator for the .
The two reviewed submissions by hundreds of San Diego artists to select winning works to be featured in this show.
First, second and third place honors will be awarded at the opening reception.
The annual juried exhibition is open to artists who live, work or have exhibited in San Diego. All submissions have been completed in the past five years.
Past jurors have included Hugh Arthur Ollman, director of the School of Art, Design and Art History at San Diego State University, and John Wilson, executive director of the Timken Museum in Balboa Park.
