Mi, Mi, Mi: Men's Barbershop Chorus To Give Free Voice Lessons

Pacific Coast Harmony's men's chorus director is holding a free four-week workshop for male singers.

Warm up those vocal chords, men. A local barbershop chorus is offering up some free singing lessons.

“!” is a four-week event put on by the Pacific Coast Harmony men’s chorus right here in La Jolla. The men’s chorus, who is directed by award-winning barbershop director Kim Vaughn, placed 19th at the Barbershop Harmony Society's international convention in July 2006 and to be bound for the international contest in July 2012, according to their website.

Vaughn will lead the free four-week workshop, teaching the ins and outs of barbershop and a capella singing to men of all ages. Participants will learn things like:

  • The fundamentals of breath control and posture
  • Fundamentals of resonance and use of the palate
  • Fundamentals of vowels, diphthongs and dynamics
  • Fundamentals of range expansion and Barbershop style

Each week will cover a new topic. The worshop runs every Tuesday at 7 p.m. from April 10-May 1. Those interested in barbershop-style music and singing can attend for free at the . Just call up Dale Vaughn at 619-475-1700 and reserve a spot for your vocal chords!
