Meet Author Gary Geddes in La Jolla

Author Gary Geddes will discuss his new book about Africa at D.G. Wills.

An internationally-acclaimed Canadian author will be in town Tuesday, Feb. 14 and he’ll be speaking on the harsh reality of Africa.

is coming to local bookstore to discuss his new book Drink the Bitter Root: A Search for Justice and Healing in Sub-Saharan Africa. The book delves into the sad reality of how other countries are leaving their ethical and environmental footprints in the country.

Geddes, who is known for his exploration in human rights issues, takes you on his journey through Africa in his book, including his experience in International Criminal Court in The Hague, and his travels to Rwanda, Uganda, the Democratic  Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia and Somaliland. He also talks about life in the Great Rift Valley.

Geddes complements his dark tales of harsh realities in the country, like rape, abduction, mutilation and murder, with optimistic outlook, like survival stories and moments of unexpected grace.
