Pastels and Paintings Reflect Chicano Culture

A new exhibit by John Valadez at MCASD covers 35 years of photographs, paintings, pastels and more.

A new exhibit is making its debut at the (MCASD) La Jolla on Sunday and its full of photographs, pastels, paintings and more.

will be on display at MCASD and reflects Valadez's Mexican-American culture. The exhibition spans 35 years of the artist's photos, paintings and other paper work, from his early use of documentary and street photography to European baroque and rocco paintings.

Valadez's most recent work is his amalgamation of photography-based imagery with a spatial and temporal structure pointing towards surrealism. Santa Ana Condition pushes boundaries in both structure and style as it depicts the nitty-gritty of urban life in L.A. and its ethnic underclass.
