Fighting Cancer with Funk; The Family Stone Will Headline Benefit for Cancer Center

Rock out under the stars and support La Jolla-based Scripps Cancer Center's survivors programs in an upcoming concert featuring The Family Stone.

Dance to the music and help fight cancer. Legendary funk music artists, The Family Stone will perform center stage on Sept. 8 for the second annual "In Concert for Cancer, Presented by UnitedHealthcare" fundraiser benefitting the Scripps Cancer Center in La Jolla.

Concert goers will travel back in time on the USS Midway's flight deck to when soul, funk, and jazz ruled the charts. Proceeds will benefit the Scripps Cancer Center’s cancer survivor programs.

In 1967, Sly and the Family Stone tore down racial walls and was one of the first interracial, multi-gendered band. Now called The Family Stone, the band includes original members Jerry Martini on saxophone, Cynthia Robinson on the trumpet, and drummer Greg Errico.
