When Angie Brenner and Joy Stocke met on a balcony of a guesthouse in a small resort town on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, little did they know that their lives were about to change. Soon, they discovered a shared love of travel, history, culture, cuisine and literature, and began a 10-year journey through the complexities and contradictions of ancient Anatolia and modern-day Turkey. This remarkable journey by two American women through one of the most fascinating and misunderstood Muslim countries in world is captured in a new book co-written by Brenner and Stocke, Anatolian Days and Nights: A Love Affair with Turkey, Land of Dervishes, Goddesses and Saints.
As part of Warwick's Weekend with Local Authors series, Brenner, who lives in Julian, will be on hand for a signing/reading and to discuss her unique odyssey through Turkey on Sunday, April 1, from 12 to 2pm.
