Chill Out With a Movie and Popcorn

Watch "Music of the Heart" at the La Jolla Library tomorrow afternoon.

The offers up some free entertainment at the end of each month and this week, La Jollans can take advantage of the precious downtime.

On the last Tuesday of each month, La Jolla Library plays free movies and passes out popcorn to munch on while you enjoy the show. Tomorrow, the library is showing a movie that will hit music-lovers’ hearts.

Music of the Heart was made in 1999, but its story is still inspiring today. The journey of the film, which stars Meryl Streep, Gloria Estefan and Angela Basset, follows a struggling schoolteacher and single mom of two, Roberta (Streep), as she teaches inner-city kids in Harlem the classical violin.

Roberta fights against school board to keep the music alive in schools and the film gives off a Mr. Holland’s Opus vibe. The story is inspiring and the music is fantastic.

Music of the Heart is rated PG, so feel free to bring the whole family to enjoy the show and complimentary popcorn. The film begins at 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the library. to see future movies that will be showing in the months to come.
