  • Why go: Ages 9 and up are welcome to share in the Full Moon Pier Walk, a chance to indulge in the late-night romance of the ocean or to learn more about marine life from the experts at Birch. Or both.

  • Why go: The soundON Festival of Modern Music boasts an impressive roster of composers and performers who will appear at the three-day exploration of contemporary chamber music. Includes open rehearsals in the afternoon and concerts in the evening.

  • Where/when: , 9500 Gilman Dr, La Jolla (Warren Field, east campus), 9 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: The La Jolla Festival of the Arts features work from nearly 200 artists from the U.S., Mexico and Israel, an auction of the compositions for this year's posters by artists Linda Pirri and Karen McLean-McGaw, music and a car show.

  • Why go: The second week of the San Diego County Fair features a Father's Day pancake breakfast, two horse shows, an enviro fair and the “Motorcycle Ride to the Fair” and performers Tony Lucca and Sister Sledge.

  • Where/when: , 400 B St, Encinitas, 7 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why go: The Bro-Am is part of a weekend of fund-raisers by the Grammy-winning band Switchfoot to benefit the San Diego and Oceanside chapters of StandUp For Kids, a nonprofit volunteer organization that aids at-risk youth. A surfing contest kicks off early, followed by an 11 a.m. concert.

  • Why go: Hall of Famer. War hero. Troubled soul. The play Ted Williams: A Tip of the Cap covers the San Diego native's tumultuous life.
