Bill Magee’s Band Has the Beach Blues About La Jolla

The Jimmy Hendrix bandmate recently came out of retirement, and will play a concert at the La Jolla Concerts by the Sea on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Bill Magee will bring a formidable musical legacy to the La Jolla Concerts by the Sea this weekend.

Early in his career as a blues musician, Magee met and befriended Jimi Hendrix, and went on to play in his band Jimmy James and the Flames. Magee soon had the opportunity to lead Hendrix’s next band, The Kansas City Playboys, on a tour around Europe.

While Hendrix was an obvious influence, Magee grew up listening to the likes of Muddy Waters, Elmore James and BB King. Yet Magee’s style stands on its own. He has lived in San Diego since 1987, and has since earned his reputation as the area’s local blues legend. All concerts by the sea are free, and concessions will also be provided.
