Urban Legend or Not? Rental Surf Boards Altered to Attract Sharks

A La Jolla Shores surf shop worker reportedly injected blood in rental surfboards in an effort to attract sharks to kill off tourists—so he could catch all the waves himself.

Would you kill your competition to catch killer waves? Or what if you just let sharks do your dirty work?

A Reddit user recently stated online that a surf shop employee in the La Jolla area injected blood into rental surfboards in an effort to get sharks to eat tourist surfers hogging up the local surf lineup.

On Thursday, uri_76 said that one day while working at an unnamed surfboard shop in La Jolla, he noticed something strange about the surfboards –there was blood inside them.

"I put in a hidden camera and caught one of our employees ... putting the blood inside the boards. We called the police and upon questioning, his main motive was to have sharks eat all the surfers so he could have all the tasty waves to himself."

Patch is unaware if this incident is true or creative Internet fiction. However, we can't help but wonder... did someone really stuff surfboards with blood? And did the culprit catch those tasty waves?

Uri76 did not say what shop he worked at and did not mention when this happened. Patch reached out to the poster, and has not heard back. In the 24-hours since the Reddit post, 250 others asked questions and shared comments too.
