Swim Relay to Raise Fund for Diabetes, Junior Lifeguard

Last year's event raised $10K for charity.

The La Jolla Swim Club will host the 13th annual La Jolla Cove 10-mile swim relay Sunday. The event starts at 7 a.m. at Scripps Park, 1160 Coast Blvd., and is a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association and San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation.

Interested participants may sign up for either a solo swim or with team of up to five people. Online registrations have closed, but people may still sign up Sunday starting at 6 a.m. The entry fee is $50 per swimmer, which includes T-shirts and swim caps for each team. Winners in each category, arranged by sex and age groups, will receive medals.

Last year more than 300 swimmers and 60 teams raised $10,000 for charity, event director John Heffner said.
