Scripps Memorial Hospital LaJolla welcomed its furry friends to an appreciation party on Thursday afternoon. The annual Pet Therapy Volunteer Recognition Pary is part of National Hospital Volunteer Week. The paw-ty is a way for the hospital to acknowledge its therapy dogs that visit facilities in Scripps Health System and bring smiles to patients and staff.

Scripps Health said more than 50 certified therapy dogs have provided comfort and companionship by visiting patients in the last year.

"These visits have helped increase emotional well-being, promoted healing, and improved the quality of life for the patients and staff," it reported.
