San Diego Junior Lifeguard Tryouts in La Jolla

The San Diego Junior Lifeguard Program offers boys and girls ages 9 to 17 an opportunity to learn from professional lifeguards.

Tryouts for the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Program were held at the pool Saturday. Junior lifeguards are required to pass a timed 100-yard swim to participate in the program.

In the program, junior lifeguards learn beach safety; ocean and wave education; first aid and CPR; and water rescue techniques.

The first junior lifeguard session runs from June 20 to July 15.  The second session runs July 25 to August 19.

The late try out will be held July 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the City Heights Pool.
