A sous-chef at La Jolla’s Nine-Ten is representing San Diego on the 11th season of Top Chef, set in New Orleans, debuting Wednesday night.
According to his bio on Bravo’s website, Ramon Barjorquez grew up in Arizona and went to culinary school in Scottsdale. Growing up, he watched his grandfather cook and carry considerable amount of Mexican, Spanish and Thai influence in his cooking, according to the website.
The North Park resident currently works under Nine-Ten’s executive chef Jason Knibb, who is no stranger to cooking competitions — he was a contestant on Food Network's Iron Chef America.
Top Chef’s season premiere is at 10 p.m. Wednesday on BravoTV.
