High Tides Could Cause Minor Flooding in San Diego County

High astronomical tides today and this weekend could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas near the San Diego County coast, forecasters said.

A National Weather Service beach hazards statement is scheduled to remain in effect through Sunday evening.

"Minor tidal overflow of low-lying coastline areas will be possible during the mid to late evenings through Sunday due to high tides peaking near or above 7 feet," according to the weather service. "High tides should lower enough by Monday to diminish the tidal flooding threat."

The 7-foot or higher tides are expected shortly before 9 p.m. today, around 9:40 p.m. Saturday and at about 10:25 p.m. Sunday, forecasters said.

Minor flooding could be possible in areas such as beach parking lots and some low-lying roads adjacent to the coast in Oceanside, La Jolla and Imperial Beach, according to the NWS.
