Have a Healthy Chat With Your Daughter

A special workshop for mothers and daughters helps teach young females about womanhood.

It’s hard enough to get your kids to talk to you, but talking to them about sensitive matter can be even tougher.

That’s where Parent Connection comes in. The Scripps Health nonprofit parenting support network is helping teach young girls about the birds and bees while bringing them closer to their mothers with something called “.”

The program is designed for mothers and daughters, ages 9-12. Its goal is to teach young girls about womanhood and everything that comes with it, including puberty and sex. On Feb. 19, the “Healthy Chat for Girls” seminar will be a three-hour long class, where girls will learn the normal processes of growth and development that girls experience during puberty in a fun and relaxed way that won’t make mothers blush.

The girls will also learn about reproduction in an age-appropriate manner and learn how to use and dispose sanitary products. Each attendee will receive a “Growing Up” bag filled with products, additional information and a journal.

“This seminar was designed for women who want to introduce their daughters to this rite of passage in a manner that will be meaningful for both of them,” said Dr. De Freitas, founder of Healthy Chats, according to a Scripps Health press release.
