Go of La Jolla Closes Doors; New Retailer Set to Move In

Go of La Jolla closed its doors on April 18 and neighboring retailer White House Black Market will take over its space.

Go of La Jolla owner Brenda Lurie closed the doors of her Girard Avenue storefront last week. Go first opened its doors in 1986 and since then the type of customer who shops in La Jolla has changed, and the types of items the store offers are no longer consistent with the shopper, Lurie told Patch.

“People who shop down here seem to have a greater interest in higher-priced items,” Lurie said.  “We want people to know that we are not closing forever. It’s our intention to open again soon in a new location somewhere in North County.”

Lurie said she is currently looking to lease storefront space in Del Mar.  She said she expects to finalize the new location in the very near future.

Go of La Jolla sold both womens and mens clothing and accessories.

In the final days of Go of La Jolla, which sold women's and men's clothing, interested shoppers swarmed into the store to buy items up to 70 percent off.

“I think it sucks that they’re closing,” said Go of La Jolla shopper Rohel Delrosario.  “I think La Jolla needs more local businesses and it’s unfortunate that smaller businesses are falling by the wayside due to the current economic climate. It’s unfortunate they’re leaving. They have some really cool stuff.”

Two days after closings its doors, Cassidy Turley San Diego commercial brokerage announced that  signed a lease to fill the space. White House Black Market is currently located one store over at 7927 Girard Ave. The lease for 2,400 square feet of retail space for 10 years is valued at $1.13 million. Mike Slattery of Cassidy Turley San Diego represented the lessor–Riverbed Property Enterprises LLC in the transaction. Kyle Kavanaugh of Main & Main, Inc. represented the lessee.
