Get the Best Value at Cabrillo National Monument

The Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma is a great place to spend some quality time with the family all year round.

The Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma offers film screenings, guided tours, hiking paths, bike trails, tidal pools, spectacular views, and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Learn all about Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo at this National Park.

The following tips will help you get the most out of your visit:

  • Drive in and park on site. The whole price for your family, access to all attractions and parking is only $5 for vehicles and $4 for motorcycles. Keep your receipt. Admission is good for a week.
  • Take the Route 84 bus in from the Shelter Island station. This will get you in for free.
  • Twice a year you can walk up to the tip of the lighthouse tower.  The next date is Nov. 15.
  • Walking shoes are a must for the family if you plan to use to the hiking trails, which are well maintained and groomed. You might consider wearing pants if you plan on hiking.
  • The annual Cabrillo Festival will offer free fun on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be music, dancing, children’s activities and foods of Native Americans, Mexico, Portugal and Spain. The festival takes place on Naval Base Point Loma, at the south end of Rosecrans Street.
  • Look into the the Junior Park Ranger Program. Have your child pick up a “Just For Kids” newspaper at the Visitor’s Center. He or she can then lead you on a tour of the park while learning about the area’s history. Discuss your findings with a park ranger or volunteer and your kiddo will be rewarded with a Junior Ranger badge.
  • Take advantage of free admission on Sep. 24, , and Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 11-13
  • Take along food from home. The park does not sell concessions. This will save you the expense of costly junk food after your visit.
