Elevated Surf, Rip Currents in Forecast

Strong rip currents and elevated surf are expected Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in San Diego County coastal areas, the National Weather Service advised Saturday afternoon.

A northwest swell may bring 4 to 6 foot surf with locally higher sets on west-facing beaches, with the highest surf expected south of Del Mar, according to a beach hazards statement issued Dec. 21.

"Strong rip currents and elevated surf will create dangerous swimming conditions . . . especially for inexperienced swimmers," the Weather Service advised.
