Budget-minded San Diegans are all about determining where their hard-earned money is best spent, but saving money takes a little research.

Plan your attack. Write the top 10 things that you love to do with your family each season and brainstorm ways to do it at a fraction of the cost. The following suggestions are ideas that my frugal friends and/or I have taken advantage of and you can too!

PETCO Park for Less

Grab tickets for as low as $4 at StubHub.com and watch our Padres play ball at the beautiful PETCO Park stadium. Pack a ball and some mitts and play some ball at the Park at the Park. Want to save even more? Pack your own picnic!

Since 1994 Del Mar races has offered free concerts for fans attending the races. Artists such as Billy Idol, Cake, Devo, Jason Mraz, Weezer, Ziggy Marley and ZZ Top have graced the stage at this fun event. Children must be accompanied by adults 18 or over.

“Come on Down” at The Price is Right!

If you children are 18 or older, you can take a family trip to The Price is Right in Los Angeles. Book a group of 15-20 people and receive guaranteed seats at The Price is Right's CBS studio. Groups are booked in advance to ensure a full audience at tapings.

La Jolla Playhouse on a Budget

The La Jolla Playhouse offers a number of discount options. Family, friends, co-workers or club members can purchase tickets as a group to save up to 25 percent. Subscribers, students, seniors, military and youth are all eligible for discounts off full-price tickets. Students and seniors can also take advantage of lower ticket prices.
