Bring On the Bromeliads

Visit the San Diego Botanic Garden this weekend for a plant bash.

Trying to decide what to plant in your backyard? You want something native, beautiful and different. Not to worry—the in Encinitas has got you covered.

It’s the first ever . Brome-what? Bromeliads are monocot flowering plants. One of the most common is the pineapple! Many bromeliads can store water, making them perfect for those looking to water their gardens less. Plus, the plans are beautifully colored and shaped and smell good to boot.

The Bromeliad Bash at the San Diego Botanic Garden will feature presentations, demonstrations, plant sales and even book sales (so you can brush up on bromeliads) both Saturday and Sunday. There will be a special exhibition at the gardens that will showcase 37 original 19th century botanical color illustrations of bromeliads and orchids from the collection of Jack Kramer, a prolific author and collector. These rare original works come with documented sources and will be for sale.
