Attention Gamers: Gear Up for Winter Game Fest at UCSD

Do you love video games? Do you beat your friends at Call of Duty? One of the largest video game tournaments will be at UCSD from Jan. 18 to 20.

If you are a big fan of games like Street Fighter, Call of Duty or Halo, you don’t have to wait until Comic-Con to get your game on.

Winter Game Fest at UC San Diego is one of the largest video game tournaments in Southern California.

Some 3,000 gamers attended last year and this year is expected to have even more games, prizes, and attendees.

The tournament is organized by UCSD’s Sixth College Tech Committee.

Elaine Scott, Sixth College student life officer, said Winter Game Fest brings the video game community together, “It allows people to meet their virtual opponents in person,” said Scott in a statement.

The three-day event is free for competitors or spectators.

“And one thing is for sure: everyone in attendance shares a love of the storytelling, art and thrill of video games, ” stated Scott.

Registration for tournaments is available online but not guaranteed. General admission is also available online.

Winter Game Fest will start on Friday, Jan. 18 from 1 to 9 p.m., and run Saturday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The event will be on the UCSD campus, inside the Price Center Ballrooms East and West.
