Susan G. Komen San Diego 3-Day walkers embarked on their 60-mile trek Friday morning. A total of 2,500 walkers dressed in sneakers and pink attire lunched at Kellogg Park in La Jolla Shores after leaving the Del Mar Fairgrounds early Friday.
Walkers will continue south through the heart of La Jolla, Windansea, Bird Rock and Pacific Beach before reaching their resting place at Mission Bay on the first leg of their trip this afternoon.
The group will walk all the way to Petco Park on Sunday for a closing ceremony.
The 2011 series of 3-Day walks across the U.S. raised more than $82 million.
Of the 2,500 walkers in San Diego, a total of 321 are breast cancer survivors.
This event is the ninth year the 3-Day has come through San Diego.
