SDSU Offers Executive Financial Planning Program

San Diego State University, which has been named among the Top Ten “Stand Out Financial Planning Schools” by Financial Planning magazine, is offering a career-enhancing Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate program that is designed for people interested in a career as a financial planning professional.

SDSU, the first university in the nation to offer a personal financial planning specialization at a business school whose degree programs are fully accredited by the AACSB, will offer FIN 522 Individual Insurance Management from May 13-July 29 and FIN 657 Financial and Retirement Planning from August 5-Oct. 21 as its next two courses.

The university offers three CFP Board-registered financial planning programs that qualify graduates to sit for the CFP Board's comprehensive exam. In addition to the six-course (18-unit) certificate program, students may also qualify for the CFP Board exam by earning either of the following on-campus degrees:

  • B.S. in Financial Services with a Certificate in Personal Financial Planning
  • M.S. with a Concentration in Financial and Tax Planning

This is an ideal program for individuals who meet one of these criteria: financial services firm employees with client contact experience; attorneys, CPA’s, enrolled agents, and CFA’s; accountants and financial professionals; or candidates with advanced degrees in business.

The CFP Board-registered Executive Financial Planning certificate program is a step in achieving the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. Upon successful completion of this 18-unit program, participants will be awarded an Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate and will be eligible to sit for the CFP board exam.

SDSU’s College of Business Administration conveniently offers the Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate program through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies. Students pursuing further graduate studies may apply units from this certificate toward the MSBA degree in Financial and Tax planning.
