La Jolla Philanthropist Barbara Bry To Be Honored At Heart & Soul Gala

Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) will host their Annual Heart & Soul Gala to celebrate the contributions of La Jolla philanthropist Barbara Bry on March 16 at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla.

Barbara Bry has worked as a journalist, administrator, entrepreneur, marketing executive, and angel investor. Her involvement on the founding team of two companies and three nonprofit organizations has not only benefited San Diego, but has assisted in the promotion and advancement of women. Her passion is to level the playing field for women in business, health care, and politics. She uses her experience and savvy to help empower women and girls in our community.

When Barbara heard about JFS's Girls Give Back—which engages teens in leadership, advocacy, and community service while promoting Jewish values—she knew she had to get involved. Motivated by the idea of developing the next generation of female leaders, she lent her generous support and mentoring skills to the program. Through Girls Give Back, Barbara helps prepare young women to create meaningful change in the world.

Barbara will be honored along with Judy and Mike Feldman and the Charitable Adult Rides & Services, Inc., program.

The Heart & Soul Gala is a major fundraiser for Jewish Family Service of San Diego, a nonprofit human service organization, which has addressed the significant increase in members of the community who need help since the economic downturn. JFS provides more than 50 programs to the community including the Hand Up Youth Food Pantry, JFS Employment & Career Services, three Social & Wellness Centers for Adults 60+, Jewish BIGPals, On the Go: Transportation Solutions for Older Adults, Project SARAH (domestic abuse awareness and support), and many more. JFS continues to meet the ever-growing and ever-changing needs of our community.

The Gala is chaired by Joyce Axelrod and Leslie Fastlicht Russo, with auction chairs April Fink and Karin Toranto. The event’s silent auction and cocktail hour are a terrific lead in to the chic and hip dinner and entertainment in the main ballroom. Last year, more than 600 guests raised more than $1 million.
