Free La Jolla Tour, Win Circus Tickets and Attend a Movie at Library

Here are five things residents of La Jolla need to know for Thursday, August 1.

1. Blogger Cheri Jacobs Aspenleiter recently wrote about the seal cam in La Jolla. She wrote: Children's Pool Surveillance Peep Show Continues, WHY? Any La Jollan can sound off on topics important to the community.

2. Catch a movie outside the Athenaeum on Thursday. The film The Big Sleep (1946) will hit the screen paired with Pinot Noir at 7:30 p.m. in the music and arts library's outdoor patio. Moviegoers must be 21 or up. Tickets are $17 for members and $22 for nonmembers and are available online or by calling 858-454-5872.

3. The La Jolla Community Planning Association meets at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the La Jolla Recreation Center. Agenda items include a permit to demolish a two-story residence and construct a 2875-square-foot home at 7106 Vista Del Mar. The full agenda can be seen online.

4. You don't need to drive downtown to see an impressive sculpture collection. There are 18 large, outdoor pieces right here in La Jolla on UC San Diego's campus. UCSD's Stuart Collection features work by local favorites John Baldessari, Niki de Saint Phalle and Tim Hawkinson. Read this article about how to use an app to enjoy this local art.

5. Got a thing for monkeying around? Patch is giving away a family four-pack of tickets to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Click the link above and leave a comment by 6 p.m. PST on Thursday, Aug. 1. to enter!
