Traffic and Transportation Committee Approve Event Street Closures

The La Jolla Wine and Art Festival and the 54th annual Christmas parade require a few street closures during the fall and winter.

The La Jolla Traffic and Transportation committee met Thursday afternoon at the La Jolla Recreation Center for the last time this summer. Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:

  • The committee approved the street closures for the 54th annual La Jolla Christmas Parade and Holiday Festival on Dec. 4. The parade will go along Girard Avenue and Prospect Street. Hundreds of people attended the event last year.
  • A street closure from upper Girard Street to Pearl Street and Genter Street was approved for the third annual La Jolla Art and Wine Festival. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. Roads will be closed Sept. 30 starting at 4 p.m. to set up for the event.
  • Bylaws were updated to reflect the presence of La Jolla Village Merchants Association and removed Promote La Jolla, which no longer exists. The committee unanimously approved the change to the bylaws.
  • Nominations for the Traffic and Transportation committee were held. Todd Lesser was nominated for the chair position and Tom Brady being nominated for vice chair. There are no term limits for the positions.

The next meeting will be Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. at the La Jolla Recreation Center, where elections will be held for the Traffic and Transportation Chair committee.
