Salk Institute Gala Stars Country Singer LeAnn Rimes
The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla featured the San Diego Symphony and country pop singing sensation LeAnn Rimes Saturday night.
The 17th Annual Symphony at Salk was held Saturday at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies’ courtyard in La Jolla. With a draw of country pop singer LeAnn Rimes performing with the San Diego Symphony, the venue was at full capacity.
Among the hundreds there were Salk Institute President William Brody, Salk Chief Operating Officer Marsha Chandler and Bill Chandler, and big Salk supporters including David C. Copley.
Symphony at Salk guests included Linda Amamouche and Andrew Shelton, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Nina and Bob Doede, Joan and Irwin Jacobs (Irwin is the chair of the Board of Trustees at Salk Institute), Robin and Gerry Parsky, Claire Reiss, Colette Carson Royston and Ivor Royston, Judith Harris and Dr. Robert Singer, and Debbie Turner and Conrad Prebys.

The evening started with a reception, which included Pamplemousse Grille’s very popular Kobe beef sliders. Dinner and a sensational LeAnn Rimes’ performance soon followed with guest conductor Thomas Wilkins vibrantly
leading the San Diego Symphony.
Since 1960, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies has been a national leader for disease research primarily in AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, cancer, diabetes, gene therapy, plant biology and vision.
