Salazar's Back With New Art Space

Alexander Salazer, local art dealer, opened his sixth San Diego location in La Jolla on Wednesday night with an exhibit by a La Jollan.

He’s back! Alexander Salazer opened a La Jolla art space on Prospect Wednesday night. Salazer left La Jolla two years ago, after an eight year stint in the Village. This is his sixth dedicated art space in San Diego, all others are downtown.

“I love the location,” said Salazer on Wednesday night at an open house. “I negotiated the space for exhibits. I don’t want it to feel like a gallery. I want it to feel like an exhibit.”

And it does. The majority of wall space was dedicated to La Jolla artist Erik Skoldberg. The and University of San Diego graduate paints acrylic on canvas. His layering, brushstrokes, use of water and color create bright pieces.

“I am a colorist. I am fascinated with the infinite color combinations. It is never ending. That is what keeps me going. Seeing the fusion of the colors disappear and come back and it is all from Mother Nature,” said Skoldberg, 27, whose mother has taught at Poway Unified and San Diego State.

Skoldberg, a surfer himself, has truly connected with nature and ocean lovers. His work is at the corporate offices including Rusty and Sanuk. He will also be featured in an upcoming Fed Ex marketing campaign.

A total of 20 of Skoldberg’s paintings will be on display in the next few weeks.

“The galleries that I run are fully committed to running local artists and it does not get more local than this,” said Salazar.
