Past Chairs of the Charity Ball Are Celebrated 'To A Tea'

The Charity Ball committee and friends celebrated past chairwomen and chairmen with a tea at the La Jolla home of David Copley on Thursday.

Last week a tea celebrating the past chairmen and chairwomen of San Diego’s oldest ball—named the Charity Ball—was graciously hosted by David Copley at his home named Foxhill in La Jolla. The Charity Ball has a long history approaching 103 years.

Among the attendees and supporters were Betty Brayshay, 1990 Chairwoman Barbara Brown, Kathleen Buoymaster, 2005 Chairwoman Carol Chang, Connie Conard, 2004 Chairwoman Liz Copley, who organized this event’s location, 1974 Chairwoman Ann Evans of the Evans Hotels, Jane Trevor Fetter, and David Gillig, senior vice president and executive director of the Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation

There enjoying tea, delicious tea sandwiches, and beautiful bite-sized sweets were 1998 Super Ball Co-chairwoman Joyce Glazer, 1981 Chairwoman Frances Golden, Lola Green, Joyce and Craigar Grosvenor, and 1968 Chairwoman Liz Jessop. The Jessop family has a long history with the Charity Ball.

In fact, a good number of the guests present represented some of San Diego’s oldest families.

Additional guests included Karon Luce, 1995 Chairwoman Barbara McColl, and Noreen Mulliken, chairwoman of this year's Charity Ball, set for Jan. 21.

Mulliken expressed excitement about the upcoming Charity Ball.

“You wanted something fabulous about the event—start with the spectacular entertainer, Rick Faugno! Rick has just left after starring for three and a half years as the Frankie Valli role of the Las Vegas Jersey Boys production to headline his own one-man show Body and Soul at the Las Vegas Hilton.”

Entertaining it should be. The Charity Ball has featured top entertainers including the late and great Bobby Short in the '90s.

Attendees in 2012 can look forward to dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado, followed by a Jersey Boys-worthy performance by Faugno, and later dancing to the big band DYNAMIC in the grand ballroom at the Del.

The 2012 Charity Ball will benefit the Rady Children’s Trauma Care Center. Top notch trauma care is a cause which was very poignantly pointed out by the tea’s musical performance by teenagers Ian Brinistool and Nicolas Gibbons. A few years ago, Brinistool was one of three teenagers in La Jolla struck by an impaired driver. Ian was in Rady Children's for three days from sustaining a concussion and a broken leg.

Recovered and performing now, Brinistool is but one of many reasons that Rady’s Children’s Hospital is worthy of support.
