Catch a 'Chick Flick' on Friday
Switch up your Friday night movie with one that has special meaning.
This weekend, skip the box office hits and instead head for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla for your weekend movie.
The Girl Scouts, Outside the Lens and the Junior League of San Diego are hosting a screening of the 2011 Sundance film Miss Representation, which was written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The film exposes “how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America,” according to an Outside the Lens press release. The portrayals of women in media, which are usually limited or degrading, are challenged in Miss Representation.
The motivating film is playing on Friday, Feb. 10 at the MCASD here in La Jolla. Registration for the film is at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. Following the screening, a one-hour discussion panel will be held at 8 p.m. so viewers can delve into the film’s context.
Are you a female politician, journalist, entertainer, activist, etc? All women (and men!) are encouraged to attend this screening. Please note that some material may be inappropriate for children under 14. The screening will be held in the auditorium of MCASD.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online here for $10 or at the door for $15.
