5 Ways to Try Something New at a Discount

Discounts can allow you to try something new without the risk of having buyers remorse.

As a general rule, I try and only take advantage of deals on things that I would have bought or used had it not been on sale because you really can go broke trying to find a deal if you aren't careful. Every once in a while, though, I make an exception, because sometimes deal hunting can allow you to try something new at a discounted price. And there are some great opportunities in San Diego this week.

In this column, we hunt down the top deals of the week to help you save some time and money. If you find a great deal in San Diego, be sure and share it with us in the comments or e-mail it to me to have your deal featured in a future column.

1. Free Mascara at Sephora

Sephora has a great deal going on right now. If you print this coupon, you can receive a free sample of the Sephora Collection 7-in-1 Full Action Mascara inside JCPenney. I’ve had some of these sample sizes last for quite a while and they are great for keeping in your purse or using for travel. This coupon is good through April 7 or as long as supplies last.

2. Discounted Gift Card to Extreme Pizza in La Jolla

I seriously think I could eat pizza every day of the week and still not get sick of it so I’m always on the lookout for pizza deals. A Patch reader shared a great site with us called Pizzerias.com that offers discount gift cards to some of your favorite pizza restaurants. Extreme Pizza in La Jolla is listed on the site and offers a $10 gift card for only $5. You do have to make at least a $20 purchase when using this deal but it’s still a great way to get a few bucks off if you are planning on eating out.

3.  Free Family-Friendly Festival in Carlsbad

The City of Carlsbad has partnered with the Carlsbad Education Foundation and New Village Arts to put on “Experience the World in the Village”, a family-friendly festival in downtown Carlsbad Village on March 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is designed to celebrate diversity and heritage and is great way to get out and spend the day together as a family.

4. Free Tombstone Pizza with the Purchase of a Hasbro Game

Hasbro has partnered with Tombstone pizza to give you a great frugal family entertainment option. Buy any Hasbro game then visit the “Special Offer” tab at FamilyGameNight.com to download a mail-in offer form to receive a coupon for a FREE (up to $7.01) Tombstone Pizza. If you want an alternative to dinner and a movie that will entertain the whole family, this deal is a great way to have a fun without hurting your budget. This offer is good through April 30.

5. Free Copy of Living Rich by Spending Smart

Living Rich by Spending Smart has great reviews on Amazon.com and right now you can get a free Kindle download of the book. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can still take advantage of this deal (and some of the other great freebies that Amazon posts from time to time) by downloading a free Kindle reading app for your computer or other device.
